DO YOU WANT TO BUST OUT OF THAT MENTAL BLOCK ONCE AND FOR ALL?

Let’s face it, mental blocks are very real and something you may have to deal with at some point in your cheering career. Personally, I hope you never get them and tumble fearlessly forever : )  But if you are like most of us and have had that dreaded mental block – this #workoutwednesday is for you!

Mental blocks are known as that big unknown in cheerleading (and life)! There is no other thing that drains a cheerleader’s motivation faster, drives a coach to insanity, or confuses a parent more, than experiencing a mental block.

So how can you bust out of a mental block once and for all?

Now, before we dive into how to bust out of this dreaded mental block, let’s chat a bit about what is a mental block? And where does a mental block come from?

A mental block,  is a fear response to a skill or skills that you as an athlete have previously been able to perform without problems.

There are multiple reasons for a “block”, so ask yourself:

  • Have you been injured, had a near miss, or have seen someone else get hurt?
  • Are you overthinking or over stressing about other things going on (inside or outside of cheer)?
  • Did you learn a skill too quickly and without proper progression?

Now, the solution! This #workoutwednesday is dedicated to helping you overcome that mental block! Get ready for an exciting #cheerfitchallenge and bonus #workoutwednesday!

This week’s workout challenge is how many SLED PULLS can you do in 60 seconds? I love this exercise because it uses your total body and activates the muscles you need to overcome that mental block.

  • Don’t Forget You Can Print Out Your Workout Card and Take it On the Go (bring it to practice, the gym or send to a friend)!
  • Instagram Fame– Post a sweaty awesome pic of you getting your weekly workout on, use the hashtag #cheerfitchallenge @cheerfittraining, and spread the holiday cheer by tagging your friends or teammates to join the fun!
  • *Of course, this workout gets the job done, but if you need a little extra boost and help getting into the right mindset, our fitness motivation team is here for you!

Now, that you’ve got a good sweat going and those brain endorphins (that positive ‘I’m awesome’ feeling you get when working out) are triggered, let’s chat about how to overcome that mental block.

Do Something New- The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. So – change it up! If you are feeling stuck and want some help taking on the new year, schedule a free motivation session with our cheer fitness team!

Turn it Upside Down (Literally)- Do a headstand! I know, it might sound a little crazy, but headstands are known to ‘cure anything’! That’s right, they help sharpen your concentration, your senses, and help you re-focus. Stressing before a competition? Nervous about tryouts? Stuck in a rut? Bust out a headstand and bust out of that mental bock!

Breath, relax and de-stress- Get out of that fight or flight mode and take your mind OFF of that skill you are trying to achieve. My favorite way to bust out of a rut is (you guessed it), a calorie scorching, sweat dripping,  total body blitz!

Now that you are feeling good, your body and brain can relax. Remember when you are stressed, your body tenses up and when you’re tense, it is nearly impossible to overcome anything! So breath, relax, get your sweaty glow on – and your brain will follow!

Aright my cheer champs, how are we feeling? Leave a comment and let me know what was your favorite exercise!

Happy Workout Wednesday!
