CAN YOU SHARE WITH US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY AND HOW YOU GOT TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?

I started my cheer journey in 2015. I had no skills besides a front roll and a handstand. I was put on my gyms large junior 2 as a flyer. At first I struggled a lot, all the other flyers were extremely flexible and they were all experienced, unlike me who could barely pull a scorpion.

So in the summer everyday, I would work on my flexibility and balance for 1-2 hours until I was at my goal.

I got my needle before any other flyer on the team and when I got flexible, it inspired everyone else to be.

Once we all were flexible, my team was known across Canada for being “the team with needles”. We won almost every competition and won Canadian Cheer Evolution nationals.

In that season, I managed to go from a level one tumbler to a level 3-4 tumbler. Now I am on the two highest level teams in my gym and I am point flyer on my junior 3 team, which is the team with needles.

I can truly say that hard work does pay off!

– CHEERFIT Ambassador Alyssa Pageau

CAN YOU SHARE WITH US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY AND HOW YOU GOT TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?

As a freshmen at 14 years old, I was pulled up on to Varsity cheer at my school. It was one of the most encouraging, most driving moment s of my entire life . I was surrounded by such amazing atheletes that it pushed me to better myself.

I had come from a pop warner team that had only done preperties to now doing one legs and 360s. It was a huge change. Being so it had its ups and downs,  but my advice to all young girls is to push yourself. Never belittle yourself because you are one of the younger girls or let anyone stop you from reaching your full potential. Through all the injuries I faced my freshmen year, I came out of it as such a stronger person.

Though I was the youngest and wasn’t full of knowledge, I didn’t let anyone keep me from striving.

Being younger sometimes has its set backs, but I always pushed myself and never let anyone say “oh well, you can learn it next year” or “well you’re a freshmen, you can’t learn it” because at the end of the day I could do anything I wanted to. I think it’s super important for everyone to find that spark of confidence in themselves, to make sure you make it to your full potential, and to never let anyone stop you . . .

– CHEERFIT Ambassador Morgan Antonazzo

ARE YOU INVOLVED IN ANY VOLUNTEER OR NONPROFIT?

I am involved with my school’s United Nations. We help local organizations and especially around the holidays we make sure to make every family has a holiday to its full potential. I also sponsored a family at a rough time by making dinner for them! It was a family of 5 and it was a large meal, but I put in time and effort to make sure that they had food on the table at such a rough time.

I’m also a lifeguard at a nursing home. It’s a great environment being around elderly people. They are full of knowledge and have been in tons of situations before, therefore they always have great advice. I also guard so they can swim and enjoy themselves.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

Some of my accomplishments include: maintaining my spot on varsity, pushing to get my backhandspring back after my neck injury freshmen year, getting my lifeguard certification, and helping my mom with her bow business.

HOW HAS BEING AN AMBASSADOR HELPED YOU?

Being an ambassador has helped me to become a stronger base and has encouraged me to start tumbling again.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT BEING A CHEERFIT AMBASSADOR?

That I can share fitness with others, and teach them how important it is outside of cheer to work out! It helps tons when it comes to practice and getting new skills and stunting.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO TELL OTHERS WHO WANT TO BECOME A CHEERFIT AMBASSADOR?

I would say totally do it! It’s a fun easy way to share such a great company. I’ve talked to so many people and have gotten advice on specific things!

WHAT 3 THINGS ARE ALWAYS IN YOUR CHEER BAG?

My huge water bottle, chapstick and my good luck bows / tags.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE?

“Lux in tenebris” meaning in Latin “light in darkness”. I always believe everything happens for a reason whether it be positive or negative, hence light in darkness.

I am hoping to cheer in college! I love, love, love, down south and hope to go to college and live down there!!

CAN YOU SHARE WITH US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY AND HOW YOU GOT TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?

Two years ago, I broke my medicarple and I had a cast on my hand and fingers. During that injury, I had to compete at the Cheersport nationals so I competed with one hand – I had to build up strength in my right arm in order to tumble/ backspot with one hand.

I would say that during this experience, I learned that no matter what set-backs you are going through, don’t let it stop you from fulfilling your dreams.

Sometimes, you have to push through the pain in order to get to the goal you want to achieve.

– CHEERFIT Ambassador, Collin Parsons

ARE YOU INVOLVED IN ANY VOLUNTEER OR NONPROFIT AND HOW DO YOU MOTIVATE OTHERS?

I am a junior staff coach for the special needs team at my gym. When doing this I push these athletes to do their best, to be strong individuals, and just to have fun while doing the sport we all love so much. I love coaching these amazing athletes because you never know what life changing experience you are going to have next.

I also volunteer my time as a member of bridge club at my school. Bridge club is where you stay after school with the special needs students and play games or do arts and crafts with them. These students always know how to put a smile on my face, no matter what mood I am in – I could go to bridge club and they would automatically put a giant smile on my face.

I love motivating others and helping others in need, that’s why I do what I do.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

I made finals at the cheerleading worlds in 2016 in the senior large coed division. During this time, my team and I placed 8th in the world. I have countless national titles and I am pushing for more.

HOW HAS BEING AN AMBASSADOR HELPED YOU?

Being an ambassador has helped me in so many different aspects of life. During my CHEERFIT experience I have became stronger socially and physically. I am so much more confident in myself now because I am in shape, meeting new people, and helping others. The workouts that CHEERFIT provides have helped me become a better, more effective backspot. My jumps have gotten stronger and higher. And my tumbling has been BOOMING.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT BEING A CHEERFIT AMBASSADOR?

My favorite part about being a CHEERFIT Ambassador is the community. The CHEERFIT family is extremely welcoming and loving. I love being able to help others evolve and I love meeting new people. I also love how CHEERFIT can help two strangers and make them best friends in just one meeting. It’s amazing to see what powerful things we can do as CHEERFIT Ambassadors.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO TELL OTHERS WHO WANT TO BECOME A CHEERFIT AMBASSADOR?

Don’t wait, It is one hundred percent worth it. CHEERFIT will change your life in a matter of weeks. CHEERFIT is an amazing program and becoming an ambassador has been one of the most amazing experiences.

WHAT 3 THINGS ARE ALWAYS IN YOUR CHEER BAG?

I always keep ace bandages in my bag. I also always keep my lucky two dollar bill and my lucky penny. I’m extremely superstitious if it’s not that obvious.

Our ambassadors share with us their personal stories and obstacles they overcome along the way. We have an amazing community of athletes who fuel their passion and determination with the CHEERFIT lifestyle.

This week, we meet Naomie, a cheerleader from Australia who tells us how she overcame an injury, how she continues to stay strong, and what inspires her to always do her absolute best. We are proud to share with you our ‘Ambassador of the Week Feature’ with Naomie Jones!

CAN YOU SHARE WITH US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY AND HOW YOU GOT TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?

Hi! I’m Naomie @cheerleadernaomie and I’d like to talk about cheer and injury. Two years ago at the very beginning of my routine, a base jumped and landed on my foot. I felt something really bad happen like it had broken, but I kept going. At the end, they carried me off stage and my coach said I needed to perform in my second team because I was point flyer and had the hardest tumble pass, so I did. It hurt so bad, but I really didn’t want to let my team down.

Afterwards we found out that my foot had broken, some toes had dislocated, and the bone holding my ankle tendon had popped out to the opposite side of my foot. I spent 6 months in a moon boot, on my flying leg, and had surgery to cut my ankle tendon, remove a bone and reattach my ankle tendon to the correct bone. I was told my ankle would never be strong enough for me to fly again. I refused to believe that.

Two months after surgery I competed at NCA, and made it onto a Junior 4 team as a flyer. I had to work harder than I’d ever worked before. My right leg had no muscle from being in a moon boot for 6 months so I started doing a lot of cardio and strength, and stretched any time I could because even pulling a scorpion was too difficult. I’m now a better tumbler and flyer than I was before, I can do a needle on both legs, I am so strong and determined.

I love cheer so much that I wouldn’t accept someone saying I couldn’t do it ever again.

It wasn’t an easy road, lots of people didn’t think I would be good enough, people even said nasty things about me – but the thing is, I knew what I could do, and I had the support of my family and best friends, and that’s what makes all the difference. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard!

Love Naomie
xoxo

2016 – 2nd Nationals J4 category
2016 – Compete at NCA
2014 – 3rd at Nationals Y1 category

HOW HAS BEING AN AMBASSADOR HELPED YOU?

I’m a new ambassador, but being an ambassador I feel like I need to try harder to be my very best for the people who are looking up to me. I don’t want to let anyone down who supports me.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT BEING A CHEERFIT AMBASSADOR?

I love being a CHEERFIT ambassador because I think my story is one that can inspire other people. Nobody has a perfect life where everything just works, and everyone can overcome the obstacles in their path by asking for help and by working their hardest.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO TELL OTHER PEOPLE WHO WANT TO BECOME A CHEERFIT AMBASSADOR?

If you want to be an ambassador – work hard and believe in yourself. Also, be kind! One thing I hate is when people take competition off the mat. Bring it to the floor and leave it there. . . we are all part of the same cheer family!

WHAT 3 THINGS ARE ALWAYS IN YOUR CHEER BAG?

Bows (I always have a cheer bow in for training), drink bottle – it is so important to keep your body hydrated and perfume/spray – so my bases love me ;-). Can I also say lip balm?? Because I LOVE lip balm and gloss!

Part of me being CHEERFIT is that I also do other sports that aren’t just cheer. It helps me to develop my reflexes, body awareness, and develop muscles that I might not use as regularly as I do in cheer! I love netball, I run a lot, and I play soccer and cricket with my family.

Thank you so much for sharing your story Naomie! We are so proud of you for having such a positive outlook, even when it didn’t seem possible. We also totally agree that a supportive team, friends and family make everything possible! We hope you continue to share your cheer and fitness journey with us and that you always go after everything you want in life, full force!

CAN YOU SHARE WITH US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY AND HOW YOU GOT TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?

I was born with cleidocranial dysplasia. It’s a very rare syndrome that mainly affects your skeletal system. After I was born I had a lot of x-rays and scans and doctors told my parents I might not ever walk on my own, and I would most definitely never be an athlete.

Now, 13 years later, I play multiple sports for school and for fun. I am also on two competitive cheer teams. I discovered competitive cheer two years ago and found my passion. Because I have cleidocranial dysplasia, I have to take extra care of my body and my muscles, because they make up for what I’m missing in my skeleton.

Fitness and training is so important for me to be able to cheer. It allows me to continue my passion, with no excuses or limits.

I can do anything anyone else can, I just have to work a little harder to reach my goals.

Because of this, I’ve learned that the only one that can limit me is myself. When I stop focusing on reasons that I can’t do something and start working, amazing things happen.

– CHEERFIT Ambassador Ellie Meyer

ARE YOU INVOLVED IN ANY VOLUNTEER OR NONPROFIT AND HOW DO YOU MOTIVATE OTHERS?

I am a straight A student and a member of National Junior Honor Society. I also volunteer at Operation Kindness, the largest no-kill animal shelter in North Texas. I want everyone to find what they are passionate about and go for it, with no limitations.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS?

I compete and am involved in softball, volleyball, track, cross country, sideline cheer and competitive cheer. There is rarely a time I’m not at practice or in the gym. When I’m not doing sports, I’m working on art, which is another huge passion of mine. I’ve had several pieces advance to state level competition for my school.

HOW HAS BEING AN AMBASSADOR HELPED YOU?

Being an ambassador helps keep me motivated and helps keep me honest. It’s easier for me to make healthy choices because I know that I am representing a lifestyle.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT BEING A CHEERFIT AMBASSADOR?

My favorite part about being a CHEERFIT ambassador is having a forum to help people. Last year during Summit I pulled a muscle in my back and spent a whole summer in rehabilitation before I was able to work on getting my skills back. It was so hard and extremely frustrating. I want to help spread the message to other athletes that good fitness and conditioning will help limit those frustrating setbacks and injuries, and it helps you recover more quickly if you are injured.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO TELL OTHERS WHO WANT TO BECOME  CHEERFIT AMBASSADOR?

If you are thinking about becoming an ambassador, I would say go for it! There’s nothing more rewarding than to be able to help people and keep yourself motivated at the same time!

WHAT 3 THINGS ARE ALWAYS IN YOUR CHEER BAG?

I always carry my back balls, which are these two balls I lay on to stretch out my back, my teasing comb and makeup wipes!

FAVORITE SONG TO JAM OUT TO DURING A SWEAT SESH:

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE EXERCISE?

I love yoga!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE?

FUN FACTS ABOUT ME!

I’m an older sister to two brothers and 3 rescue pups and two rescue kitties. I love God, my family, friends and I want to give back as much as I can.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE?

The best feeling in the world is leaving it all on the mat with your best friends. Win or lose, doing your best and hearing the crowd get behind you… there is nothing better. The rush of adrenaline before you take the mat is thrilling. I’m also fairly certain cheerleaders are among the most superstitious athletes out there. I have so many good luck charms woven into my shoelaces. And I won’t replace my shoes mid season, even though they are worn through the bottom because we are undefeated and I can’t change out my lucky shoes!!!

Thank you so much for sharing your amazing story Ellie! You energy and passion is SO strong and we love how motivated you are in all you do. We are so lucky to have you as a CHEERFIT ambassador, and we look forward to hearing about your many accomplishments ahead! #CHEERFITstrong!

I have been an All-Star Cheerleader for 11 years. I was at GAGE in Blue Springs, MO for 8 years when I had to make the hardest decision of my cheer career to move on. I then went to Fury Athletics in Liberty, MO for one season, but it still wasn’t what I was looking for in an All-Star gym. . .so I chose to once again move on.

My mom and I looked for awhile to try and find the perfect gym that I could finish my All-Star career at, we decided on a gym called KC Cheer in Lenexa, KS which is an hour drive for us.

This was going to be a HUGE family commitment that we decided to take.

I have also constantly battled Bakers cysts on my knees and scoliosis, sometimes the pain is so bad it’s very hard to keep pushing through practice but I know I have to for my team.

CAN YOU SHARE WITH US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY AND HOW YOU GOT TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?

Before I became a CHEERFIT Ambassador, I struggled with technique in my tumbling, as well as learning new tumble skills. At my old gym South Jersey Storm, I used to get really bad pain in my knee every time I did a tumble pass. My mom took me to see a doctor and that is when I learned that i have osteochondritis in my right knee – in order to fix it, I was going to have to quit cheerleading or get surgery done on it.

Before leaving Storm, I became a CHEERFIT Ambassador and joined in on every work out challenge since the summer. Every work out video Mrs. Danielle posted, I found myself doing. Following my work outs, my coaches and I myself noticed that the technique in my tumbling had improved. I started setting better and moving faster during my tumble passes. I also learn new tumble skills faster than I normally do.The best part is i no longer have pain in my knee since I work out everyday now! I also started a new eating habit  –  less junk food.

What I learned being a CHEERFIT ambassador is that you really have to be fit if you want to be apart of this sport.

I’m glad to be part of this organization so that I can continue to motivate others in my situation, and in the sport of cheerleading world-wide to be CHEERFIT strong! I now have a punch front through to a roundoff handspring full which I learned two weeks ago, and now throwing it on the floor.

I am Sha’ciah and I am CHEERFIT💪

– CHEERFIT Ambassador Sha’ciah Banks

ARE YOU INVOLVED IN ANY VOLUNTEER OR NONPROFIT AND HOW DO YOU MOTIVATE OTHERS?

I am a Loveemwithkindness topaz ambassador and I enjoy spreading kindness and love everywhere I go! Being on the LEWK squad, I get to lend a helping hand to others in need. Although I don’t like praise for this, I enjoy it. Over the summer I got to help a family in need in Texas and they were very grateful for it. When I was in Baltimore at American Masters nationals, I saw a homeless lady sleeping out in the cold and I left her some breakfast so that she would have something to eat when she got up. These are just some of the little things I do outside of cheer.

I love helping others and by sharing my CHEERFIT and lewk journey, I am motiving and inspiring others to be the change, join in on my journey, and create their own by becoming a part of both organizations.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND GOALS:

My goal for 2017 was to get my level 4 and 5 tumbling skills before next season, and I have mastered them within two months of learning them. My next goal is to make it on a worlds team before I enter into high school which is in 3 years.

I also maintain straight A’s in school and get my homework done while being in the gym 4 days a week. When I graduate high school, I want to cheer for college and become a physical education teacher.

HOW HAS BEING AN AMBASSADOR HELPED YOU?

Being a CHEERFIT ambassador helped me become confident in my tumbling and learn new skills faster than I normally do. It also helped me get rid of the pain in my knee.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT BEING A CHEERFIT AMBASSADOR?

My favorite part about being a CHEERFIT ambassador are the workouts because I get to do them with my mom and challenge her – fun, fun, fun! I also love meeting fellow ambassadors at the comps and getting new cheerleaders to join.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO TELL OTHERS WHO WANT TO BECOME A CHEERFIT AMBASSADOR?

Work, dedication and motivation is what you need in order to become a CHEERFIT ambassador . . .and if you think you have what it takes, then apply and come join the family on our CHEERFIT journey.

FUN FACT ABOUT ME:

I never had any tumbling lessons and don’t own any tumble mats. I taught myself every tumble skill in my yard on a mattress, and clean it up when I go to the cheer gym. My mother is a single mom raising four of us on her own, so she can’t afford to buy any tumble mats or pay for tumbling privates. If you look at my Instagram account shaciah_njse_official, you will see videos of me tumbling in my yard and cleaning it up in the gym.

I am just lucky to be able to do all star cheer and I am grateful for that.

WHAT 3 THINGS ARE ALWAYS IN YOUR CHEER BAG?

Hair ties, lotion and socks.

FAVORITE QUOTE:

“If we’re going to rise, lets do it together – as a team we can be better.”

(this is a quote I thought of when I was on my old team because there was so much arguing during practice . . . this motivated them to do better and we started hitting 0 after that. Basically it means if we work together as a team, we can earn that Big W as a family.)

Thank you so much for sharing your story with the community Sha’ciah! It sounds like you have big goals and dreams ahead of yourself and great motivation from within and amazing support from your mom. We hope you continue to inspire others with your CHEERFIT journey and can’t wait to follow along to see all of the things you have yet to accomplish.

We are SO proud to have you in the CHEERFIT family! #CHEERFITstrong

SHARE YOUR STORY . . .

Hodgkin’s lymphoma cancer stage 2B. That was my problem.

Being told I would never be able to tumble or anything because my body would be weak after having chemo therapy put in me – they told me my body would never ever be the same, my body would be weaker, muscles would have problems, and just about everything in my body would be to weak to do anything. But it didn’t stop there . . . everyone I went to I kept hearing the same thing . . . no, no.

I wouldn’t push it, but just hearing that made the fire in me burn more so I decided to prove everyone – even my own family, wrong. That was when my training started – I pushed myself beyond my limit, endangering myself.

I wanted to quit so bad, but I pushed through thinking back about how I was told no.

. . .but here I am 2016 – 2017 as star tumbler for ACX Diamond Daddys! I still have many issues with my heart, lungs, bones, and muscles, but I make-do by pushing myself everyday.

After every performance or practice I do pay the price, but I made this choice. I do feel though that with this huge setback, I handle it decently. From this ongoing experience, I feel that the saying “if you put your mind to it, you can do anything” is 100% true so hopefully you can see me and believe it for yourself.

– CHEERFIT Ambassador Conner Lai

HOW DO YOU MOTIVATE OTHERS?

Social media is my go-to way to motivate others! Hearing my story and seeing the amazing things I’m still capable of – inspiring everyone who sees me! Also, when people meet me around competitions, I love to encourage others to stunt or tumble with me, trying new things and teach them! Also, talking about cheer in general about mental blocks skills or just competing in general!

Most of all, the message I like to send out to everyone is don’t be afraid to try new things or train hard –  in the end its all worth it.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

Some of my accomplishments include making many big teams over the summer, such as Cali coed Top Gun and 005! Mainly, I’m proud of all my tumbling skills, but when it comes down to it, making ‘So You Think You Can Tumble’ in Atlanta is one of the proudest things I’ve done . . . one of the coolest tumble offs!

BEING AN AMBASSADOR HELPED ME. . .

. . .gain even more confidence in myself and gave me a reason to train even harder!

SHARE YOUR STORY WITH US. . .

I was born with Cystic Fibrosis also known as CF. This is a lung disease and there is currently no cure. Cheerleading and exercise is the main reason I am healthy to this day and my doctors will tell you that.

I do have to take a couple of breathing treatments every day, but that is better than hospital stays. I want to show the world not to let life’s setbacks keep you from what you love to do.

You have to over come it!

I have my days where I do not want to do my treatments, but I know you have to get through pain to get to the good – just like exercising!

I am so lucky to have found cheer at such an early age to keep me healthy! I want to be able to spread this to the world you can do anything you put your mind to!

I now have my full on the floor and working on speciality passes. I am also on three cheer teams, highest being a Senior level 4!
